Fremont is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. The city is composed of five districts, which used to be independent cities, that merged in 1956. The land mass covers 92 square miles, making Fremont the fifth largest city in the State of California.
Resonate Church Plans to Benefit the City of Fremont, California
The climate is mild with a wet season in the winter and dry one during the summer months. BART, the Bay Area's train system, is ambitiously extending its tracks from the southern end of Fremont toward San Jose. Centrally located between San Jose, Oakland and San Francisco, Fremont is a very desirable place to live.
Fremont's newest church is named "Resonate," and its members intend for it to be a church for the City of Fremont. It currently meets Sunday mornings at Forest Park Elementary School, located at 34400 Maybird Circle. One of the church's missions is to invest in the greater community by supporting local organizations like the police and fire departments.
It has also "adopted " Oliveira Elementary School as a place to serve. The small but vibrant congregation plan to have an ongoing relationship with the school, doing odd jobs whenever they receive a request from the school's staff. Feb. 27, 2010 will be the first work day at the school, with volunteers painting, cleaning, repairing and preparing earthquake emergency kits for the students.
Outreach and Christian Fellowship
"In any city, there should be one church for every 1,000 people," Ryan Kwon said. "Fremont has over 213,000 people with just 77 churches, and that is just not enough to serve all the people." Kwon believes new churches need to continually be started because they reach new converts and bring new energy into the fold. New churches project a zeal that becomes contagious. Kwon stated, "Only one church in Fremont, to my knowledge, is under five years old."
A common misconception is that church plants siphon people away from other churches, creating division among pastors and their people. However, church plants often act as feeder churches to more established ones, as some people will move from the church plant to a bigger one, a cycle that promotes healthy growth in the Christian community of any city.
Until Resonate becomes more established, several other church pastors will be acting as elders, ensuring wise decision-making as the fledgling body matures.
