Resonate Church, only five weeks old, celebrated Easter Sunday on April 4, 2010 with a festive party.

Christianity's holiest holiday drew 270 people to the doors of Forest Park Elementary School on 34400 Maybird Circle, the current location of Resonate Church. Because Easter honors the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Resonate Church wanted to make the day special.

Easter Worship Service

Scott Taylor, Worship Pastor, led contemporary praise songs on his guitar, accompanied by Matt Snelson, Mike Anderson, Joei Chou and Ted Burmas. Then Andrea Marquez shared her personal story about her faith in Christ, mentioning how instrumental her husband Marco was to her spiritual development. Andrea was followed by Pastor Ryan Kwon, who spoke on how the world was revolutionized by the resurrection of Christ. Jesus was born at the height of the Roman empire, when all roads led to Rome and the world was in an unparalleled era of peace.

Kwon preached that when Christ rose from the dead, he was seen by hundreds of people. Word spread quickly, and a dramatic paradigm shift took place in the culture as thousands of people put their hope in Christ, exhibiting a new certainty about their future. Kwon also stated that Christianity was the only institution in the world that embraced other cultures and ethnicities. Christians believe in one God of all people, rather than the belief at the time of a god or gods for each individual ethnicity.

The sermon closed with communion and a call for anyone to put their faith in Jesus Christ. A team of people interested in praying with anyone who desired it were on hand, and several individuals took advantage of the opportunity. Resonate Church places a high priority on prayer, believing they can accomplish nothing without it.

The Easter Fiesta Party at Resonate Church

After the service, lunch was provided in the picnic area, catered by Juan More Taco, a Fremont restaurant. They served beef tacos, rice, beans, chips and all the condiments. Doughnuts and homemade cupcakes were provided by Resonate.

At Fischer Park, adjacent to Forest Park Elementary, an inflatable bouncy house was set up on the grass for the children to jump in. Then bags were passed out for the Easter egg hunt. 5,000 colored Easter eggs filled with candy and toys were hidden in the park, and the children returned with their bags overflowing.

Single Mom Oil Change

On April 10, 2010, Resonate Church teamed with Bridges Community Church, also located in Fremont, to perform free car washes and oil changes for single moms as a community service. Thirty-three women came to the event, where they were able to relax, sip coffee with volunteers, and enjoy child care during the time their cars were being serviced. One mother said, "I have been coming for two and a half years to the single mom's oil change. I feel so loved and accepted."

The mission of Resonate Church is to be of service to the surrounding neighborhoods, showing the love of Christ in tangible ways. The organization calls itself a "church for the city" and hopes to reach unchurched and de-churched people with the redemption of Jesus Christ.
